Big Spirit Lake
One of Iowa’s Great Lakes from which Spirit Lake derives its name, the lake spans over 5,600 acres and is the largest natural lake in Iowa. It is a popular destination for both tourists and locals year-round, where you can enjoy swimming, boating, skiing, and fishing in the summer and snowmobiling and ice fishing in the winter.
Dickinson County Museum
Celebrating the origins of the town, the Dickinson County Museum is built into a restored 140-year-old depot, and features nine permanent exhibits as well as three temporary exhibits. Visitors can travel back in time and hear the story of Fred Gilbert, the best trapshooter in the world, Dickinson County’s role in the Civil War, and many other exhibits that celebrate the region’s history.

Located just outside Spirit Lake, the Dickinson County Nature Center offers visitors a chance to explore the natural beauty and wildlife of the Iowa Great Lakes region. The center features interactive exhibits, educational displays, and scenic walking trails that highlight local habitats and conservation efforts. Indian Motorcycle Visitor Center
The Indian Motorcycle Visitor Center in Spirit Lake celebrates the history and craftsmanship of one of America’s most iconic motorcycle brands. As the home of Indian Motorcycle’s manufacturing facility, the visitor center features exhibits highlighting the company’s legacy, engineering, and modern production process. Guests can explore displays of historic and current models while learning how these legendary motorcycles are built right here in northwest Iowa.
